My publication record includes teaching and learning journal articles and initiatives where in collaboration with Ken Culton we have explored topics such as music and theory, social movements and case studies, and criminality and white collar crime. Our first article explored the use of music in the classroom as a way of motivating discussion and alleviating anxiety in theory courses. The title of the paper is “Lady Gaga Meets Ritzer: Using Music to Teach Sociological Theory.” This paper is published in Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy. Our second article titled “Blogs, Tweets, and Protests: Learning Movement Theory through Online Case-Studies” which provides a guide for instructors using social movement website data collection as a method for exploring social movement theory. This article was published in the International Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. The third article “Breaking the Carnival Mirror: A Classroom Exercise to Reassess Criminality” was published in Humanity and Society in the summer of 2018. The article provides a writing assignment where the students explore how institutions have harmed them or a member of their family.
